Have you ever seen someone make creative notes at a conference and wished that your own notebook was more presentable? It's much easier to do than you think. You don't have to be an aspiring lettering artist, and you don't need to develop top-notch drawing skills. Making your notes more interesting doesn't have to be a huge undertaking. It's not like learning to play the piano or taking up diving. If you think sketchnoting looks fun, I have some tips to get you started.

Schools often have a “culture of talk” around improvement. By working with teachers to identify needs and set compelling goals, instructional coaches can turn that into a “culture of action,” Jim Knight said in his Sunday morning session at ASCD Empower18. At the outset of his session, Knight featured a quote from the surgeon-writer Atul Gawande: “Coaching done well may be the most effective intervention designed for human performance.”

Over the last two years, Science Teachers’ Association of Ontario (STAO) has developed the Ministry-funded project titled, Project Innovation. Improving the pedagogical knowledge and skills of science teachers is a priority for STAO. In 2014-2015, STAO writing teams developed resources to enhance student engagement in science. Ontario teachers with extensive experiences developed content and media to help teachers direct their own learning in areas of inquiry, critical thinking and technology-enhanced learning. Check out Expert Elements. Classroom teachers connected these strategies or tools to specific grade and/or curriculum, which are showcased in Classroom Catalysts.
