Chemical Garden -- Step by Step Tutorial! - YouTube

Students will have the opportunity to grow their own “chemical gardens” in mason jars which they can take home. The garden forms as chunks of metal salts are dispersed and stabilized in a sodium silicate solution. Students will learn about precipitation reactions and concepts of density in order to understand how their chemical gardens will form. Chemical properties and how it relates to colour may also be discussed. While students are waiting for their chemical gardens to grow, we will do a brief lesson, introducing students to the periodic table and give students the chance to play "Periodic Table Battleship".
