There are several methods for turning a neutral object into a charged object. All such methods involve a transfer of electrons onto or off of the object. The method of triboelectric charging usually involves rubbing an object against a second object that has a different affinity for electrons. Electrons are transferred during the rubbing process such that both objects acquire a charge.
